What is FERN?

FERN stands for "Fife Environmental Recording Network". As the local biological record centre, FERN (which is part of the Planning Department of Fife Council) provides information on all aspects of wildlife and biodiversity in Fife. Founded in 1992 (as Fife Nature - now called FERN), it is part of a similar network of record centres across the British Isles.

All information is kept on powerful databases linked to a Geographical Information System (GIS) allowing quick and easy access to a full range of species, site and habitat information.
