MAY

Visit to Kennoway Den

Saturday 8, Denhead, Kennoway (NO 347 027), 14.00

See the beautiful display of spring wildflowers and explore the den under the leadership of Tony Wilson of Fife Countryside Rangers. Contact Alison Irvine 01337 830366.


Farm Ponds and Wetlands

Thursday 20, meet Pittarthie Farm, Elie, on B940 (NO 515 081) at 14.00. Wear stout shoes for walking

Visit this wildlife friendly farm where theory is put into practice and training is provided for farm wildlife advisers from across Scotland. Contact Alison Irvine 01337 830366.


Visit to Auchtermuchty Common – for Wildlife Week

Sunday 30, meet car park by entrance to north end of the Common, on east side of B936 approx 1 mile N of Auchtermuchty (NO 238 135) at 14.00

George Ballantyne and Ruth O’Riordan will lead this walk on one of the best inland botanical patches in Fife. This outing is one month earlier than last year’s, so different flowers should be in bloom. Joint Outing with Kirkcaldy Naturalists. Contact Kate Morison 01337 828058



JUNE

An Orchid Meadow in Kinross

Tuesday 29, meet at the Meadow at 19.00, off Aldie Road, 1 mile East of Powmill Milkbar on A977 (NT 034 985)

Last year over 800 greater butterfly orchids flowered in Tim Brain’s meadow. This year there will be an attempt to trap the micromoth which is specific to these flowers. Led by Tim Brain, this is a joint walk with Stirling Members Centre and FWAG. Contact Tim Brain 01577 840317.



JULY

Barnyards Yard and Kilconquhar Loch

Saturday 10, meet main entrance to Barnyards Marsh, 50 metres on right of minor road by Kinneuchar Inn, Kilconquhar, at 14.00. Car park is across this road from Inn (N0484 021). The marsh is usually wet underfoot, so wear wellies!

First a walk round the marsh, concentrating on a variety of plants, including sedges; then a look at birdlife on the loch and fungi in the woods. Led by Albert Lawrie, Reserve Convener, and Gordon Corbet. Contact Albert Lawrie 01333 330480


Evening Wildlife at Cullaloe

Thursday 22, meet reserve car-park on B9157, 1.5 miles north of Aberdour (NT 188 875) at 20.00

With the help of a moth trap and bat detector, there will be a chance to investigate crepuscular wildlife, as well as to take a more general look round the reserve under the leadership of Gordon Corbet, Elspeth Christie and Anne-Marie Smout. Contact Anne-Marie Smout 01333 310330.



AUGUST

Carlingnose Point - A 40th Birthday Celebration

Sunday 1, meet North Queensferry, at Church car park next to railway station (NT 132 809) at 14.00.

Reserve Convener Stuart Bonar will lead a walk round the reserve, describing its history and pointing out the many unusual plants which led to its being designated an SSSI. The walk includes steep gradients on a good path. Tea and cakes afterwards will celebrate the Trust’s 40th Anniversary this year.



SEPTEMBER

Morton Lochs and Tentsmuir Forest

Sunday 12, meet Morton Lochs car park (N0 465 264) at 12.00. Bring sandwiches

Visit Morton Lochs, where over lunch in the bird hide, the Warden, Tom Cunningham, will describe recent management work to improve the habitat. Then on to Tentsmuir Forest, where Tom will lead a walk and describe the reserve management and its impact on wildlife. Joint meeting with Fife SOC. Contact Sue Armstrong 01334 838279

Cameron Reservoir

Sunday 10, meet reservoir car park (N0 479 114) at 14.00
